ABOUT ACS:
ACS is a 501c3 organization with excellent systems in place for accounting and wiring. It is moving to learn about the mission work of LaVerne & Lois Morse, who founded ACS. The current ACS leaders, including Director Mark Morse (son of the Morses) and Chairman of the Board Kent Odor (son-in-law of the Morses), are encouraging to everyone they partner with and empowering to the ministries they support. Their treasurer, David Bickel, is someone I used to go to church with—I appreciate and respect Dave and his family.

For 10 years I have had the honor of being Daniel and Buzi’s U.S. forwarding agent, and the time has come for me to seek help with various tasks. You have already received newsletters from Brandon Gilbert, who is taking over Daniel’s ministry email list. And now ACS will be taking over the donations portion.

Thanks for reading this long email! Happy forthcoming new year!

Daniel’s December Update

19 Dec

Greetings from CMFM mission and the Mawyios. Merry Christmas to you all!

We hope you had a good time at Thanksgiving. Another wonderful event is coming soon and hope everyone is busy for that. Thank you God for sending his Son not only to save but also to be unite us in His love and His ministry. It was great to see some friends in our zoom meeting. Thank you all very much for your faithful support in the ministry.

Family

Thank God, we are doing well and safe. My city was hit by Covid after the election on Dec 8. Around 100 tested positive and were hospitalized and some parts are locked down. We had a nice family thanksgiving and we will celebrate Christmas with family because the church is not open yet. My children are excited to have family Christmas and 15 people are enough to have a big party at home.

MBI

We decided we will start online class on January 5, 2021. The teachers are busy preparing the lessons and trying to learn new things with the website. The students have to come back to MBI because the internet is not available everywhere. We are trying to move forward despite the challenges.

My Works

I’ve been preparing the lessons and teaching the Word of God to the family at devotion every night and a young man leads the morning devotions and weekly bible study at home. I am doing translations; that is a project organized by brother Joe Snyder, a board member of Mission Myanmar. We are translating one of Dr. Jack Cottrell’s books "The Faith Once for All!" I am one of five on the team.

Request

As I mentioned in my former news, we have a 60 – 70 people gathering at a church in Tanai, Kachin state on the way to Naga Hills. They were refugees from Naga hills and settled there. As I mentioned, a minister has been working at the church with his family for a couple years. Now he dropped his work and there is now no shepherd at the church. I just can only encourage by telephone because traveling is still restricted so far. One MBI graduate and his family are willing to go to take the minister’s position. But they need a place to live. So I need $4,000 to buy a piece of land with a house. Tanai is the first stop to Naga hills from Mandalay and important place to extend the gospel to the south along Chindwe river and along the Ledo road to the north.

Another plan is that we will have a leadership seminar in February 2021 if Covid cases come down. We will need to fund this program, estimated $2,500. I’ve been leading this for a couple years since I came back from CCU. Each year I hold 2 times in different places but this year we will combine in one place and this will be the first meeting for the leaders from all Naga Christian churches. Please remember our ministry in your prayers. Thank you, God bless you all.

Happy Anniversary and Pandemic Care

27 Oct

Happy Anniversary to Daniel & Buzi. On October 25, they celebrated 14 years of marriage. The Christian Mission for Myanmar board and friends want to wish them another year of love and happiness. We are grateful for their model of Christ’s love and ministry.

Daniel, Buzi and their sons Gideon, Ezra, and Nathanael
Daniel, Buzi, and their boys built their house to be large enough as a children’s home also; they care for 8 additional students, plus Daniel’s mom lives with them.

Note from CMFM board: We recently learned that with the modest funds Daniel and Buzi receive for ministry each month, they have already spread their care to include not only their 3 boys and Daniel’s mom but also 8 kids living in the home, and also helping 3 MBI college students who could not get home during the pandemic shutdown.

Now they are even sharing their stipend with other ministers who are struggling to feed their families during the pandemic. So they are stretched especially thin. If there is any extra you can donate during this season, it is going directly to care for people in need.

Also special 2020 financial information: The U.S. CARES act increased the contribution limit of adjusted gross income to 100% for 2020. This means that for every dollar given to charity, donors can deduct up to the full amount of their income. This is a massive benefit for your donations.

From Daniel:

Hello all!

We are praying that you all are doing well. By the grace of God, we are doing fine and safe in the pandemic. I have not written the news for a while. Thank you very much for your faithful prayers and support for the ministry.

2nd wave of Covid-19

The authority released the lockdown slightly when the 1st wave was almost controlled till the middle of August, but the 2nd wave broke out again in Rakhine state, west Myanmar, the unrest area in Bangladesh border and moved to the rest of the country. As of the end of September we have 8515 positive cases and 155 deaths in the whole country. Yangon, the largest city with over 5 million people, was hit badly. Positive cases increase rapidly day by day and some cities are locked down. In Pyin Oo Lwin 4 positives cases have been found and we are under semi lockdown. All schools, religious places and works are still closed. Since jobless, many people are suffering hunger and facing lack of basic needs in the families. Our church still worships in our own houses and grow as individual home cells.

Family

We have a great joy in the Lord in our family for Gideon took baptism on Aug 9th with 12 friends after his 13th birthday on Aug 1st. Thank God, he is doing great and leads the services and plays piano at home worship services. Nathanael turned 6 on Sept. 15th. Ezra and Nathanael are taking online courses from their school. They have to go to school once a week for book return and for weekly exam. I myself had got a severe pain in my back but now feel much better. We have daily devotion in the morning and at night and have Sunday worship service at home. We started Bible study again from last week.

There are some changes in the house. The boys moved to the ground floor where it is more convenient for them. We made two story iron beds; one for the girls and one for the boys. And the floor in the living room is replaced by flagsones as permanent. We also replace the water tank and automatic voltage regulator that were broken unexpectedly and we finished painting the house that some part we left last time.

The orphanage

One boy from the orphanage took the matriculation exam last school year and he passed the exam, thank God. If God wills, we are thinking of sending him to a medical college to become a Christian doctor. This year another boy and girl have to take the matriculation exam if the schools open. The government high schools opened for a while but closed again when the Covid 19 spread again. So far 3 MBI students live with us. They cannot go back home since the graduation and waiting to go back to MBI. They are very helpful and are leading the children.

MBI

MBI is still closed as other schools and colleges around the country. If the pandemic will be long, we need to think of different teaching methods for the future. The local authorities returned 5 acres of MBI old compound and we did cleaned the land after we received it officially. The futsal play field is done, but so far not allowed to play for the pandemic.

Traveling

In the last week of Aug, just before lockdown, I had a short trip to Myitkyina in the north for Myanmar Churches Committee EC meeting. We can encourage the churches to stand firm in the faith under the pandemic and can manage the churches to send love and support to the churches in Rakhine state in the west that are facing many struggles: under the war between the army and Arakan ethnic army and badly hit by the Covid 19. But I cancel all literature advocacy trips and others.

The churches in Northwest

Although I cannot travel, I always contact friends and the churches by telephone to encourage them. We lost one of a faithful ministers died last month. He traveled 3 days to get to the hospital and jut then known that he has liver cancer. I also visited to two fellow servants from northwest who hospitalized in Mandalay. And some friends do not have money to buy food for their families in the pandemic, so Buzi and I are sharing from our living expense because we do not have mission funds. If the pandemic will be long, we will have some difficulties. In the pandemic, as I learn, the best way to serve our Lord is Praying for the people and sharing what they need.

On the other hand, the ministry is growing. Some churches still worship at church because they are far from the Covid areas. The leaders take care well to the churches who cannot gather at church. Since Lahe church is increased they are planning to build a new worship building.

You all are in my family’s prayer. God bless you all!

Photos & greetings from the Mawyio family

19 May

Note from Kelly, forwarding agent: My apologies. I forgot to attach Daniel’s photos with the last newsletter. Please enjoy lots of photos now: some from before the pandemic: Daniel’s trip to conduct ministry seminars. Then some current photos of the Mawyio family and kids living with them, taken now during the pandemic. All attached. Thank you.

From DANIEL:

Hello all! I am praying that you all are doing well.
By the grace of God, my family and all our friends in Pyin Oo Lwin are doing well.

The government extended the lockdown to the end of May. As of this morning, 6 have died and 191 positives. The government manages well to respond to the pandemic. We had no positives for a couple days but from this week we see 2 or 3 positives in a day from among the laborers who came back from other countries, and this we call the 2nd wave. Thousands of laborers are still coming back from the neighbor countries.

We cancelled our family trip to northwest that was planned for the end of March. I also postponed Gideon’s medical checkup trip to Bangkok in May. Since we need to follow the government’s instruction, MBI will wait and be opened when the government allows the schools; it is guessed in the end of June or July. The schools used to start in June in the whole country.

The pandemic makes changes to our daily life style. We become familiar with delivery marketing system, online classes, and a couple things. Gideon is taking online piano courses. Now he plays in can plays in worship. Ezra is also taking online class from their school. Buzi is teaching hymns and praise songs to the children.

Many churches worship online but so far our church worship at home with our own family. My family has worship service every Sunday with the Lord’s Supper. One good thing is all the children can participate in worship service. But we still miss our friends at church.

Since we stay together at home, it’s a good time to turn our faces to God with the family. We pray three times a day. We have Bible study at noon. We study the Book of Acts, focus on four facts. 1. Jesus: Salvation – He died for us and rose again; 2. Jesus: Miraculous power and Great Healer – Trustworthy God in the pandemic; 3. Jesus: Deserved to be served – We must serve Him; 4. The Holy Spirit: The Controller in Acts – Our guide Divine in daily life in any situation. I am happy to make sure this foundation to family for their faith.

Please remember the people from Dunghe Township, in Naga hill in NW in your prayers. They are facing famine because the crops were destroyed by the insects in harvest time last year. In the midst of famine the new crops are also being destroying again. They feel hopeless. Please pray for them.

We remember you all in our prayers. Stay safe, God bless you all!

COVID update, family update & church update from Daniel Mawyio

27 Apr

Greetings from Myanmar!

Our God is good, His mercy and power are enough to protect us from the time of hardship. We are praying to our God day and night to overcome the hit of COVID-19, the pandemic. We are so sorry for your country’s suffering as other countries that the virus affected. As of April 11, 3 died from 31 positive cases in Myanmar. No positives seen in my city, but lockdown for several weeks.

We turn “stay at home” to “stay with Him!” We pray three times a day at home since we cannot go to church. All our friends and sponsors are remembered in our prayers. We call you by name to those who we know in our prayers.

Thank you very much for your generosity and your prayers. Your faithful participations make great changes in the ministry here in Myanmar. We still need your prayers and support to do great things for His glory. Please keep praying and stay with us.

MY FAMILY

We all are doing well by the grace of God. The children took final exams in of March. Gideon needs to take an MRCP test for the last time since his stay in the Cincinnati Children’s hospital. We had planned to travel to Bangkok sometime in May; now we are not yet. Thank God, he is doing great. He got an award in singing competition in his school this year. Ezra Kaemark and Nathanael Jungmark are selected in Honor Roll trip in both semesters. We thank God for our boys and proud of them.

Our house was filled with guests who come to MBI’s graduation on February 11. Including a 3-month infant and 85-year-old grandpa who came from thousand miles from the north, we had 10 guests. We are so happy to receive our friends at home and we had a good fellowship.

In January, Scott and Kathy Hudson and Brandon Gilbert from White Oak Christian Church came to visit us. For Brandon it was the first visit to Myanmar. It was a really good time with friends.

**Current ministry resource needs: Daniel is in need of a laptop. If you would like to donate a laptop or funds for one, please reply here and reach out to Daniel (Mawyio.daniel). Thank you.

MBI

MBI graduation went well: 20 students graduated this year. We rejoice in the Lord for their achievements, on the other hand, it was a sad day for us because one of the graduates went his eternal home with the Lord the night before graduation day. He was on an evangelistic trip in Rakhine State, the west part of Myanmar, during Christmas break and was sick then. He went back to Putao in the north to take medical treatment and died in a hospital.

MINISTRY TRIP

Some of my trips are now cancelled. But before the lockdown, my February visit with churches and leadership trainings went well. It was a successful and important trip for future ministry. On this trip I took two friends.

Tanai: minister housing need

This is a town in Kachin State, the first stop after 24 hours by bus from Mandalay. Many Naga people moved to this plain area from Naga hill to escape from the war between the Burmese army and Naga armed forces. They started Tharyarthit Church of Christ a couple years ago. They have around 50 regular attenders. Hundreds of people around them do know Christ yet. We stayed one night there. At night, around 30 people gathered at the church and we shared the Word of God. The minister and his wife have 2 children. They need a house. So far, they live in his friend’s house. A piece of land (40x100ft), next door to the church with a house is available to buy. The church wants to buy it, but we still need $4,000. Please remember this in your prayers.

**If you or anyone you know anyone wants to give to this ministry need, you can designate a donation to Echo Church with CMFM & Tanai Church in the note.

Khalung Village: growing church plant

We traveled by motor bike from Tanai to Lahe. We had a good fellowship with the churches along the way. Khalung is a 3-hour drive from Tanai. 6 years ago, two faithful men and I prayed in a jungle to start a church. Now that place became a church compound, and around 30 people are worshiping in Khalung Church of Christ. We stopped here for lunch. One of the minister’s daughter graduated in February from MBI. As the church members increase, we are planning to build a worship center sometime this year.

Tasik Village: former refugee village

Tasik Village is an hour drivesfrom Khalung. It was a refugee village. But now peaceful and around 60 people are worshiping. One MBI graduate is ministering in Tasik Church of Christ. We stopped for a while and encourage our brothers and sisters.

Shingbwe Yang: strategic ministry

Shingbwe Yang is the last town of Kachin State and the end of plain area. Like Tanai, Shingbwe Yang is a strategic place for ministry; we can travel to Khamti in the south through Chindwin River and through Stillwell Road, we can get to Nanyung, Pangsua, and to India. We stopped a while to meet the minister and some church members. Although a small church, they are strong in faith. Their church building is still under construction.

Nanyung: literature meeting

From Shingbwe Yang, all the rest is mountainous Naga Hill. We were in Nanyung after a 4-hour drive from Shingbwe Yang. Nanyung is the government’s administrative town and the only place both the electricity and the internet is available. And it is the intersection of Stillwell Road and Lahe Road. We stayed two days in Nanyung. We had the Tangshang Naga Literature Committee meeting two whole days. As the board’s decision, I will meet divisional authorities in Monywa, the capital city of Sagaing division later to apply the permission from the government to teach our language in the schools in our land. Since I was so busy, I just met some church leaders and talked about future ministry.

Sangkai Village: literature advocacy

It is 3-hour drive from Nanyung. We stayed one night just for literature advocacy. We had a good meeting with some tribal leaders.

Dunghi Church: church plant new building

It is 3-hour drive from Sangkai. This is a new sub-township and Dunghi Church of Christ is started four years ago. The church members increase now. The church building is almost done. So far they worship in an elder’s house where we stay. Around 20 people came at night to listen the Word of God.

Gaye Church: famine

This church was started by Lisu and Rawang missionaries 30 years ago. Now a Naga minister is serving. They are suffering famine this year. At night about 70 people gather at the church and we encourage their faith to endure the hardship.

Santung Church: former persecution

Now we are in Lahe Township. Santung Village is one-day trip by motor bike. This church suffered many kinds of persecution under former government but now they are peaceful and growing in faith. These people recently move to a new place. Hundreds of people remain in the old place and they do not accept Christ yet. They need church building and the minister’s house. Around 20 people gather at the place we stay and we can share the Word of God.

Lahe Church: office building need

Lahe, the capital city of Naga Self administrative zone is 3-hour drive from Santung. Lahe Church of Christ is growing rapidly. Now they are the office building of Lahe Regional Evangelistic Committee. We need financial help to complete the building. Worship service will be in this building before we build worship center in the land we bought. From this year, a new minister is serving as a senior minister when the former one serves as an associate minister. We stayed one night and meet some church leaders.

Nyinshong Church: preaching

We drove 3 hours from Lahe to this village and preached on Saturday and Sunday. My team from MBI preached in this church one week in December break. It is good to see brothers and sister strong in faith.

Tamai Church: leadership seminar

We did the leadership seminar and meeting in this village. About 40 leaders, preachers and Sunday school teachers and youth leaders attended the seminar from 13 churches from Lahe region. And also the chairman and secretary from Nanyun Regional Evangelistic Committee attended the seminar and represented 14 churches from Nanyun region.

We had a meeting after the seminar. We reviewed CMFM ministries and leadership role in the Northwest. Thank God He has done great things during these 10 years. Now we need to step forward another milestone. So, we make some important decisions for the future ministry. We need your prayers and your participation more in this journey for the Lord’s Kingdom.

May God protect you and bless you all!
—Daniel

Gospel trip: a report from Daniel Mawyio

27 Feb

Friends, thank you for your prayers for our ministry. Because of your support, I want to give you a follow-up report on our big gospel trip over Christmas. Also see the attached photos.

Next week I will send another update on some upcoming ministry plans and needs.

People were reached!

Christmas is a great season for gospel sharing here in Myanmar. On this trip we had good fellowship with 9 churches and reached 1,000 people with the gospel.

MBI had four major trips this year. Some teachers and students traveled to Rakhine in the west, some to the Magwe division in the center, and some along the rail way in the north. My team took a trip to my home region of the northwest.

Our trip to the Northwest, village by village

I took 6 people with me—this is the first time I took a group of students to Khanti and Lahe.

Dec. 14: from my home it is 2.5-hour drive to Mandalay International Airport and then 1.15-hour flight to Khanti. We had lunch there in a small restaurant and took a van to Lahe. Since the flight was delayed almost two hours, we got to Lahe at 9:00 pm. The minister and his wife had already prepared the food and beds for us. Except a few teashops, there were no restaurants or guest houses. So we depended on our friends’ house to stay and their kitchens for food.

Lahe church is growing fast. An MBI graduate and his wife and two kids are ministering at the church. They bought a new piece of land to build a new church building.

Dec 15: We went to Nyinshong Village by motor bikes through the hilly jungle track. This is the largest church in Lahe Township among the churches of Christ. They are Nyinshong, a subtribe of my own Tangshang Naga tribe, but they speak their own dialect that I don’t understand, so we have to communicate in Burmese. They have more than 1000 people in the village. A young man age 25 who finished short-term Bible training is ministering there.

They have some doctrinal challenges and some dishonest people are trying to destroy the unity of the believers. We strengthened their faith in the Lord and had a good fellowship with the whole church. As it is the dry season and the harvest was done, it is a time for building new houses, repairing the old house buildings, and weddings.

We needed to prepare sermons for any kind of services we would be asked to preach. We shared the Word of God 4 nights at the church.

Dec. 21: We celebrated Christmas at Nyinshong Village. Hundreds of people listened the story of the coming of our Lord Jesus and His salvation.

That evening we went to Yomdai Village. They are Lainong Naga and they speak their Lainong language. There are around 800 people in the village. Two years ago I had been to this village. At that time only a few families were Christians and the rest were animists. I thank God, for this time the believers increase to 120 people. We did a night program with the students’ performance and shared the good news of Jesus Christ. Many unbelievers came with their friends to listen the gospel.

Dec 22: We went to Khalai Village where a combined Christmas service was held. This is called Majam village and the people are Majam Naga tribe and speak their own Majam language. There are more than 1000 people live in this village. The Buddhists and Baptists are the majority.

This church was the most persecuted in the past, but now in faith they are strong and the members are increasing.

Dec 23-26: Around 2000 people participated for Christmas. The festival started on Dec. 23 and the participants departed on Dec. 26. Celebrating Christmas for 3 days is a tradition, and we had 7 services.

Now the situation is changed so some township level authorities and some Parliament members came and enjoyed with us and also they gave a speech to the civilians. The good news is, 18 received Jesus as their Savior and were baptized. We pray that more will come turn to Christianity soon.

Dec 27: My team left to Khamti. We got there at 5:00pm. At night, the minister asked me to perform a wedding ceremony the next morning at 7:00 am. When we talked at lunch table, I found out the bridegroom is one of my relatives.

Dec 28: After the wedding, we left to Padumung village, a 3-hour journey by boat. Burmese, Shans, and Nagas live in this village. Most of the people are Buddhists and Baptists. Church of Christ members are around 30. Four months ago, the minister of this church stayed almost 3 months in my house when he came to the hospital. This trip is the first time to this church. More people came than usual to the Sunday worship service. Their old bamboo church building was too small for that day. So we did the service outside on the church grounds. The church is growing, and they laid the foundation for a new church building.

After the church we go back to Letpanthar church. Around 100 people attend in the night service. Lisu and Naga Christians attend in the same church. We spent the night at that church. It is good to see some of MBI graduates are serving in many areas in the church.

Dec 29: we visited Namkhamar and Majam kha churches, a 2-hour drive from Khanti by motor bike. An MBI graduate is serving as associate minister in Namkhamar. At night we led a program in the Khanti church.

Thank you for reading about our trip. Please keep praying for the faith of our brothers and sisters in the Northwest to reach unsaved souls.

Again thank you for your support and partnership for His glory in Myanmar. God bless you all.

CMFM News
July – November, 2019

Hello! I hope you are doing well and had a Happy Thanksgiving last week. I haven’t emailed for a while. This is the update on all the news that has happened this summer and fall. Thank you very much for your faithful prayers and support for the ministry. God bless you all.

Insurgent Activity
This year we had some unusual things happened in our city. Some insurgent groups launched rockets in a military technology school in the city that is one of the army populated and peaceful cities in the country. We have a Defense Service Academy in the entrance of the city, this technology institute in the exit of the city, and we also have several army trainer centers in the city. Thank God we are safe, but at the moment no visitors, either foreign or local, came to the city. Since the city’s economy depends on tourism, they held a media conference to declare the city safe. Now everything is getting back to normal.

Elephant Flu
As chikungunys (elephant flu) spread, we became victims. Everyone in the household except Buzi got sick during last two months. Some got repeatedly sick, two or three times. A number of MBI students had it also. It is unusual and severe. Some of us are still suffering pain in our bones and joints, but thank God we can work normally. Gideon got the flu first, but now he is doing great. He got A’s in all subjects in his weekend English school. He has a big dream that is to earn his higher education in the USA when he grows up. That is his usual prayer request at family night devotions every day.

Ministry Gift
We are so thankful to White Oak Christian Church for the Compassionate Wave gift. We received $4,000 and it was a great blessing to make the kitchen for the orphanage and a wall to prevent erosion in the back. We are so thankful to every single person and church and Sunday school class for your support in many ways. We are so blessed in the ministry by all of you.

Church Events
Buzi is teaching Sunday school and leading the ladies choir group and other social activities in the church. Now they are busy preparing for convention. We had a church revival on Oct 14-16. Usually the church invites preachers from different places, but this year three of us from MBI were invited. I preached the first night entitled: “Honor your Father and your Mother.” And I had another chance to preach again at our Thanksgiving service. I always thank God for giving me the opportunities both in teaching and in preaching ministry.

Myanmar Bible Institute (MBI)
Although we have faced financial difficulties, MBI is running well. All the faculty and staff are serving faithfully and the ministry is growing. Some students are teaching Sunday school in 7 different places, including a new place that is started this year.

The new building at MBI is also almost complete. The first semester went well, and now we are in the second semester. As a dean of students, I enjoy being able to mentor students both spiritually and educationally.

American Visitors
We enjoyed our friends’ visits to us. We had a good time with Kent Odor, the chairman of Asia Christian Services (ACS). I also had a good opportunity to meet Chuck McDaniel, a Board member of ACS in September. In Nov. 9- 16, Doug Umbanhowar, his daughter, Anna Fudge, and Cris Fuller visited to MBI. Anna taught two days about “Introduction to Trauma Competent Care” and Cris taught Music. What a good time and blessings to meet our beloved friends who love the Lord and serve Him faithfully.

Ministry Travels
• On Nov. 12, I am heading to Mesai, Thailand concerning “Tangshang Naga Literature.” We had one-week workshop and an important and fruitful meeting with Summer Institute of Language (SIL). We have made a future plan for producing hymnals and the Bible in Tangshang Naga language—which would be the first time ever.

• I went to Myitkyina, in the north on Nov. 26-30 to participate in the Myanmar Churches of Christ leaders’ conference and meeting. This was a National level meeting.

• I will have several advocacy trips in the NW and Arunachal Pradesh in India after MBI graduation.

• Dec. 3-5 the Lower Myanmar Churches of Christ Combined Christmas and Convention will be held in Mandalay City that is 42 miles from Pyin Oo Lwin. I am assigned a teaching session. The whole school will serve in a couple of areas.

• During December break, we will have gospel trip to Naga land in the Northwest. I will bring some students with me.

Special Christmas Funds Needed

I would like to take at least 6 students on the Christmas trip to spread the gospel. Each student will need $200 for the trip. We will travel to Khamti and Lahe areas and will participate in Lahe churches combined Christmas in Khalai village, Lahe Township. During this trip, I am planning to travel along Chindwe River up to Khamti city for sharing the gospel and doing survey for a new outreach ministry field.

Please lift your prayer up for Myanmar ministry. Thank you, God bless you all.

Hello from Daniel & family: June ministry update in Myanmar

29 Jun

Hello all!

I am praying that you are doing well and enjoying summer. Thank you very much for your support and prayers. Here is the latest update about my family and our ministries here in Myanmar.

My Family
We all are doing fine by the grace of God. The record heat of the summer is over and we have rain now. Pyin Oo Lwin’s weather has also changed from this summer; it is hotter than previous years. But by the grace of God, we all are doing fine. Also it was busy summer. We thank God for the things we were able to accomplish.

The schools opened in June, so it is one of the busiest months of the year.
• Gideon’s school started two weeks ahead of the others. He also takes weekend English and piano courses. We praise God that he is feeling very well. We did his MRCP check in Bangkok during the first week of May. When we sent the result to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the doctors saw no complication from the bile duct changes. But they say that he remains at a higher risk for liver cancer. So they suggest that Gideon’s doctors follow him annually with ultrasounds, liver labs, CBC and AFP. We are praying to God for his health—please remember him in your prayers.

• This year, Ezra and Nathanael both go to St. Matthew, a private English school. The school is run by St. Matthew Baptist Church and is the only Bible based school in Pyin Oo Lwin. So Ezra and Nathanael do not need to go to weekend English school. They both enjoy their new school.

• As the school year begins, Buzi is the busiest person in our home. It is impossible to take all three children to two different places on her scooter at the same time. So I bring Gideon to MBI with me, and he has to wait 30 minutes there and then I have to take 30 minutes from my teaching hours to take him to his school. If there is no rain on the way, we are lucky.
The Orphanage
Enjoy the photos of the students in our orphanage as they prepare for school. Except for one boy, all the kids in our home passed their exams last year and are working hard and growing in all phases: physically, mentally and spiritually. They also participate actively in worship and church activities. One boy failed his matriculation exam but he is trying hard again to have good results this time.

• We have devotions every night and every morning. One night is a special time to pray for our sponsors, as we do for the other ministries on the other nights. And we fast on the first Saturday of every month. All the students participate joyfully to praise God and pray for other people.

• One MBI student who lived with us last year earned a B. Th., degree in February and went back home to Naga land. He will teach in Thaho Christian Bible School in July.

• We had planned to add three more children to our home, but they cannot come for some difficulties. But Buzi and I are helping three MBI students who do not have sponsors for their school fees. We decided to help them when we heard their stories; they are potential young people for future ministry.

• One student converted to Christ from drug addiction in our summer youth camp. When he heard about MBI, he wanted to go there but felt hopeless because his father is also drug addict. So I brought him to my home and we teach the Word of God every night. Now he is trying hard in MBI.

• One young boy is very active in the church and wants to come to MBI, but he has no parents to support him. So I encouraged him to trust in God.

• Another one is an intelligent third year B. Th., student. Her parents are supporting her brother, who is studying in a medical school so her parents cannot support her anymore. The only way is to go back home to sacrifice her education for her brother’s future. Now they all are studying hard in MBI.

• These future leaders need $40 each month for their living and school fees. That is $1.33 for a person in a day. But this small amount can change their whole life and their community.

MBI (Myanmar Bible Institute)
MBI started the classes during the first week of June. We have now enrolled 60 students, including 9 freshman and 13 newcomers. Master of Divinity students increased to 9 this year. As usual, the school has financial difficulties, but we all are trying to serve in the Lord’s work as much as we can. The office and dining hall are under construction; we also need finances to finish the building.

Outreach
We are so thankful to God that the summer activities were fruitful. A minister from the church where the youth camp and leadership training program was hosted this summer reported that the church attendants have increased since that time. And some drug addicts who did not go to church for decades, including the father of the boy whom I brought to MBI, have changed their lives and come to church now.

As I mentioned before, one MBI graduate is ministering in Lahe. Now the church members are increasing and the church is growing. They used to worship in a temporary place, but the room is too small for worship service. So some members began going to other denomination on Sundays. Now they have bought land to build a new church building. They paid most of the cost but they still need financial assistance.

All these ministries are only able to happen because of your partnership. God bless you all.

Financial needs:
1. Monthly needs for the orphanage we run: $40 x 10 students = $400

2. Sadly, I lost my laptop when I travel in summer. So, I need a laptop. I prefer Apple (like Macbook pro or air) no matter new or used so that I do not worry for anti-virus update in no internet access areas. (If somebody is able to donate it for my ministry, Doug Umbanhower from Bangor and Cris Fuller from Forest Dale church will come to MBI in November.)

3. Sponsoring MBI students = $40 a month for a student to go to college

Others in Myanmar:
• A minister’s house/office in Nanyun = $2000
(This is a small growing church that was able to build a new church building and need ministers’ residence and office.)

• To buy a piece of land for church building in Lahe = $1000

If you or anyone you know would like to designate a gift to any of these needs, follow the instructions below to give online or by check.

Thank you, God bless you all!

Youth Camp & Leadership Seminar: Thank you for your support

15 Apr

Report on Youth camp and Ministers’ seminar
4/12/2019

Thank God for the ministry happening for His Kingdom. Every achievement through CMFM in Myanmar ministry is by your faithful partnership. Your constant prayers and every single dollar that you donate contributes to great change to individuals and the ministry as a whole. Thank you very much to each one of you. God bless you all.

Here is the update on the NW youth camp and seminars we just held (photos attached):

Our Team
Our group teamed up with 10 people: 7 from MBI, 2 ladies from Kalay (one is an MBI graduate), and a minister from Tachileik, Shan state, who is an MBI graduate. We traveled three days by car to get to Taho. Typically, summer is the dry season in Myanmar, but it was raining there. Traveling in rain is a real adventure, but under the protection of God, we had a safe and fruitful trip. The works produced more than we expected.

Impoverished & Isolated
I am always praising God and thankful to you, our sponsors and prayer partners, for we have some achievements in the outreach fields also.

As the UN development program reported, Naga land is still the poorest, most isolated, and least developed region in Myanmar. Under the civilian government’s administration, the roads and transportation has become better than before. In religious outlook, more than 90% of the population of the land claim themselves as Christians, but Christianity is cultural for most of them, and their faith is not based on sound doctrine but mixed with syncretism. For instance, some people pray to God, on the other hand, they offer food to spirits; but they say they are Christians. They are still under the bondage of Satan.

Many people are thirsty to hear the true gospel of Jesus Christ. On the other hand, I was very thankful to God to see some faithful devoted Christian brothers and sisters there. These Christians are eager to participate in this ministry and are so encouraged every time we come, like we feel when you visit us. Each year many young people receive Christ in the youth camps and their faith in Christ is growing; some even come to MBI. Some drug addicts also have changed their lives and participate actively in the churches and some go to Bible schools.

Youth Camp
The youth camp was held March 18-22 in Taho 1 village. Our theme for this year was “The Church, God’s family,” based on 1 Cor. 12:27 and Eph. 2:19. About 400 youth and children attended. According to the population ratio in that area, most are from a Baptist background. It is so good, for the gospel is not only for a particular group or class but for all people.

Since it was raining, we could not do outdoor activities as we had planned, but the campers actively participated till the end of the program. The ladies from Kalay are well-trained in evangelism to children. They took care of all classes for the youth. I was able to take extra time for Bible study about baptism with the young people. A total of 8 young people from Churches of Christ received Jesus as their personal Savior and were baptized during the week and we encouraged others to be baptized in their churches.

Leadership Seminar
The one-week seminar for the leaders also done in the same week, March 18-22. There were 41 church leaders, leaders from the villages, and Sunday school teachers who attended. The attendants have increased, and some come from other denominations. I taught Christian leadership—as Christians, how to be good leaders not only in the church but also in any areas in society. My friend taught about the duties of elders and deacons in the church.

New Open Doors
God always has bigger plans than we have. He opened a new door to share the Word of God to other churches. Before youth camp, as the church requested, I taught about Christian Family three days in Naung Yang Church of Christ, and my friend taught the same topic that he taught in seminar. On the way back, we spent one day in Nanyung Church of Christ to share the gospel and had a night program with praising and action songs. At Shinbwe Yang church we stayed one day for teaching and a night program. Tanai is just two hours’ drive from Shinbwe Yang, so we left early to our last stop to spend the whole day and night to share the Word of God.

People are poor in material and financial means but eager to hear the Word of God. They have great vision to build or complete the church buildings in their own villages that were banned in the past under the old administrative system.

Thank you very much again for your participation for the ministry and keep praying for these ministries and for the churches.

The Ministry Center
Thank God, we have 21 people now living in the ministry center and all of us are doing well. God is faithful to give our daily bread and gives us peace and protection. Buzi is going the extra mile, not only in the house and in the church but leading Bible study at night and morning devotion every day at the home also. The children are growing in faith as they grow physically. We poured concrete around the house last week, and now there is enough space for the children to play. Now the children are enjoying a one-week youth camp in our church that started from today during the Buddhists’ Water Festival.

Gideon’s Health
Concerning Gideon’s MRCP (an MRI specifically designed to check on the pancreas, gallbladder and liver), Singapore is very expensive than we expected; Bangkok is cheaper but we still need to do some steps in order to get a doctor’s appointment. On the other hand, we inquired at a new hospital in Yangon to see if they can do the test, instead of us having to travel out of the country. Please pray that we can find an affordable place for this test and for good results to know that his body continues to be healthy. Gideon is an active boy among his friends. God is good. He is asking a new piano for the old one is not fit for higher level. Now he starts playing hymns. He needs around $500 to buy a second hand one. Thank you, God bless you all.
